Mediums II | Drawn From Life I | All of these sketches were done in relatively short amount of time (usually several minutes). I rarely can get a model to pose for longer than that! I always regret that I cannot do even more portraits and quick sketches from life. There is nothing quite like it; I recommend that all artists draw or paint from life as much as possible! The bottom two portraits are of the same person. I especially enjoyed painting the quick and loose watercolor sketch on the right. I usually put more detail into my portraits; on this one, I let the brush strokes stay quick and bold, the colors strong and pure. It's a style I should work in more often. The model for the watercolor, however, shook his head when he saw that painting. Suffice it to say that he thought I was whacked. But that's okay—the painting isn't in his collection, so he doesn't have to see it!
